New nutrition and dietetic assessment service

Bahía del Duque premieres its nutrition and dietetic assessment service

Led by specialist Juan José González Santiago, this new section utilises biological medicine treatments and diagnostic systems to detect stress and oxidation levels and then applies personalised plans

The Hotel Bahía del Duque is premiering a nutrition and dietetic service that incorporates state-of-the-art techniques and treatments in biological medicine, naturopathy and orthomolecular nutrition. With this new incorporation, the hotel, owned by Grupo CIO or Company of the Western Islands, is extending the health and wellness offer of its wellbeing centre, Bahía Wellness Retreat.

The nutrition and dietetic section, headed by specialist Juan José González Santiago, integrates the most advanced diagnostic systems to detect stress and oxidation levels among other parameters and then formulates personalised plans according to a person’s energy metabolism and specific objectives.

Among the tools used by the hotel’s team of specialists the most notable is the Steck system for the design of personalised nutrition plans and the prevention of injuries and disease. They also use the Tanita 980 body analysis system for measuring stress levels and body composition to be able to prepare an adapted biological treatment, according to specific needs such as the prevention of aging or different pathologies; recovery from injuries; and nutrient, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, etc.

The subsequent follow-up of the initial diagnosis allows for the evaluation of the impact of food plans and toning programmes, as well as weight variation and body composition over time.

With the incorporation of the new nutrition and dietetic service, the Bahía del Duque Hotel is advancing in its commitment to offer a service responding to the growing demand for a holistic wellness proposal. Bahía Wellness Retreat enjoys numerous international recognitions, and includes a thalassotherapy circuit, special Vichy Shower treatments, a hydrotherapy bath and pressure jets, physiotherapy and fitness areas, yoga and Pilates classes and a designated space for the practice of kinesis.

According to the hotel’s general manager, Cristina de Juan, “health and wellbeing are increasingly being related to leisure time and relaxation, so we wanted to take it a step further with the creation of an innovative nutrition and dietetic service that helps our visitors and guests take advantage of their stay with us not only to relax, but also to acquire all sorts of healthy habits.”

A team at the forefront of well-being

The nutritionist, Juan José González Santiago, has more than 16 years of experience in sports medicine and nutrition, cellular and orthomolecular nutrition as well as biological medicine. This national and international lecturer is an alternative medicine educator who also teaches for the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB). He was one of the pioneers in Spain in working with the Steck system of preventive and predictive health medicine that the Bahía del Duque is currently incorporating.

“Through the nutrition and dietetic service, we perform an initial diagnosis to ascertain the physical and metabolic status of each person and then apply the most appropriate treatment for each case, whether they are diets and anti-aging treatments, diets adapted for athletes, anti-stress programmes, etc. We also offer expert advice on specific exercises to be performed and possible food intolerances or those that best suit you. All this in an exclusive environment with the stamp of quality and excellent service of the Hotel Bahía del Duque,” Juan José González Santiago explains.
