Bahía del Duque receives Michelin Key awarded for excellence of select hotels

The member hotel of The Tais Hotels & Villas is among the firsts in Spain to be awarded this distinction

Bahía del Duque has been chosen as the recipient of one of the exclusive Michelin Keys in the first awarding of the prestigious French guide to be held in Spain. Only 97 of the country’s hotels have been selected for the distinction.

Just as Michelin Stars are awarded to restaurants, the keys recognise the world’s most exceptional hotels. For Hotel Bahía del Duque, owned by The Tais Hotels & Villas, the Michelin Guide’s experts based their decision on the establishment’s unique personality and architecture, which draw on the style and tradition of the Canary Islands.  Other factors considered were the hotel’s interior design, its luminous rooms and suites with views of the ocean, and over 63,000 square meters of lush tropical gardens on the premises.

Among the other features that won over the experts are the quality and variety of the establishment’s restaurants, its spectacular spa, Bahía Wellness Retreat, with an open-air thalassotherapy circuit, and its privileged seaside location in Costa Adeje, south of Tenerife.

According to the experts of the Michelin Guide, after over 30 years of existence, “Bahía del Duque remains the top-ranked player in the Canary Islands hotel industry”.

Over 5,000 hotels worldwide are currently holders of a Michelin Key. These establishments are well known for their remarkable locations, and each has been examined thoroughly and is acclaimed for its excellence in five categories: architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, personality and authenticity, value for money, and what the guide refers to as “an open door to the destination”.

The hotel’s general manager, Cristina de Juan, reacted to the awarding by stating, “It is an honour for all of us at Bahía del Duque to be chosen for this distinction of the Michelin Guide. It recognises our constant efforts to provide our guests with an exceptional experience. With this award, we are even more committed to surpassing expectations and remaining a leading player in the hotel industry in the Canary Islands. We are devoted to upholding our community’s essential values, ongoing improvement, and sustainability”.

The Michelin Key is one of many distinctions that Bahía del Duque has received among the 90 domestic and international awards since its opening. The following stand out: the ‘Condé Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence 2024’ for Best Service, the ‘Condé Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence 2023’ for Best Destination Spa, 2023 and the Holidays Customer Excellence Award 2023, awarded by British Airways in addition to the recent ‘Most Sustainable Tourist Company’ award at the ‘2024 Mencey Futurist of Honour Awards. It recognises our constant efforts to provide our guests with an exceptional experience. With this award, we are even more committed to surpassing expectations and remaining a leading player in the hotel industry in the Canary Islands. We are devoted to upholding our community’s essential values, ongoing improvement, and sustainability”.
