GUIDELINES FOR RESPONSIBLE TOURISM
You are on the magical island of Tenerife. This miniature natural paradise on the shores of the Atlantic is brimming with breathtaking beauty and unique landscapes. Our culture, folklore, traditions and hospitality make Tenerife an ideal travel destination.
By respecting our natural and cultural heritage, you can help ensure that future generations continue to enjoy this remarkable paradise. Will you join us in this effort? By following these guidelines, you will contribute to a model of responsible tourism that we all want and benefit from. Your stay here will also be more respectful of the environment.
Supporting the community and respecting culture
Discover our culture and traditions. Make the most of your stay by immersing yourself in our local customs and enjoying the unique aspects of our island. We encourage you to support our merchants, artisans and hospitality industry by consuming and purchasing products within their establishments. Your support directly contributes to the development of our community.
Protecting environment and biodiversity
Protect our landscapes. Respect biodiversity and protected areas. Please avoid removing, disturbing, or damaging any living organisms or inanimate objects, such as rocks, plants, and animals, that you. The Canary Islands are home to over 400 species of protected flora and fauna, which you can learn about here.
Contributing to keeping the environment clean
Please discard food or rubbish only at designated points. Whenever possible, please separate your waste for recycling, which will help reduce your stay’s environmental impact.
To support waste reduction, we have installed a range of colour-coded recycling stations throughout our facilities. Our team will be happy to assist you with any questions or suggestions you may have.
Consider using environmentally friendly personal care products. Suncreams and other products containing microplastics or other ingredients harmful to marine biodiversity may severely damage ecosystems.
Making sustainable use of resources
Thanks to initiatives such as digital invoicing, our hotel’s service web app, PressReader (our digital news service), and large-format toiletry dispensers, we offer practical alternatives that help reduce environmental impact.
Please collaborate to protect and upkeep natural spaces. Try to avoid driving or parking outside of permitted areas. You can easily wander into protected areas, such as the volcanic landscapes known as malpaises, or inadvertently damage our flora or fauna. We encourage you to use our extensive public transport network or to share a car to reduce traffic and exhaust fumes and make parking more accessible for everyone. Our staff will gladly help you to organise your stay. You can also check the timetables of our local buses (known as guaguas) here.
Making efficient use of water and energy
Tenerife is a small island with limited resources. Using less water and energy is a way to help conserve valuable natural resources. Please do your part by taking short showers, closing the tap while brushing teeth and switching off air conditioning or heating when opening doors or windows. This small effort will contribute favourably to the mitigation of climate change and the conservation of resources.
Animal welfare
You will find diverse fauna throughout our island and our hotel whose welfare must be observed. Please do not feed or touch any animal, especially wild creatures, as doing so may harm their well-being or alter their natural behaviour. As part of our commitment to biodiversity, our dedicated professionals oversee the care and feeding of the hotel’s wildlife. Please help us to protect our animals by refraining from feeding them. If you see animals that appear to be abandoned, injured or in danger, please notify our staff, who will inform and advise you accordingly.
Commitment to protection of vulnerable individuals
The security of every person, particularly that of vulnerable individuals, is a priority. If you come across any exploitation, mistreatment or abuse of minors or adults who appear to be vulnerable, please report it to the relevant authorities by calling the National Police at 091 or the local emergency number, 112. In any case, our staff will be available to o assist you in handling the situation safely.
Commitment to sustainable travel
To travel in a more sustainable manner, we suggest that you reduce the weight of your luggage. Lighter travel helps to reduce air-travel emissions. In addition, choosing reusable rather than single-use products help to offset the impact of waste.
Responsible cultural experience
Please help us to protect our natural heritage and cultural legacy by purchasing souvenirs and artisanal and local products only at authorised points of sale. Please do not purchase any products or objects that may be of historical or archaeological value when such transactions are illegal and may adversely affect our cultural heritage. If our guides accompany you, they will inform you of the appropriate points of sale. The best way to experience our natural and cultural treasures is to hire companies and guides that our local and regional governments and tourism authorities have authorised. They will provide the most accurate information and ensure your stay is environmentally and culturally friendly. Our staff will gladly advise and inform you in this regard.
Respecting local heritage
Please do not engage in activities that may damage our heritage’s integrity or structural soundness, including climbing onto walls, statues or monuments of historical or cultural interest. Observe and obey rules and indications posted in establishments, protected areas, monuments, and official events. In this sense, we ask that you also respect dress standards at cultural or religious events, such as the pilgrimages and folkloric dances known as romerías and bailes de magos, respectively. If you wish to participate in these festivities, appropriate clothing is an essential part of keeping our traditions alive.
We are here to help you to enjoy Tenerife sustainably and respectfully. We thank you in advance for your collaboration and your commitment to caring for this unique place so that future generations may enjoy it.
