The Hotel Bahía del Duque renews the “Biosphere Certification” thanks to its sustainable management
Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 31st of July 2017.- The Hotel Bahía del Duque, company owned by Compañía de las Islas Occidentales (CIO), has obtained once again the renewal of the BIOSPHERE SEAL, awarded by the Responsible Tourism Institute, which certifies the sustainable development and management of the establishment, according to the parameters set in its annual audit.
Awarded by the Responsible Tourism Institute, the Biosphere certification was the first to be approved by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) worldwide, and is the only one to incorporate the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the main guidelines of the Paris Climate Summit.
This is the voluntary certification with the most prestige and credibility of the international market. Designed for the tourism industy, it is based on the principles of sustainable development through specific criteria in regards to responsible tourism policies; conservation of cultural heritage; socioeconomic development of the destination; environmental conservatoin; and customer satisfaction.
The Biosphere Seal was created and developed by the Responsible Tourism Institute at the request of the 1995 World Conference on Sustainable Tourism, a milestone promoted by the United Nations through UNESCO which also included the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the MAB Programme (Man and the Biosphere), the World Heritage Centre, and the European Commission
